An Appropriate Prayer Request

Have you ever wanted to pray for something but weren't really sure it was an appropriate request? Is there such a thing as an inappropriate prayer request? And...then...how do you know for sure that you are interpreting something that happens correctly? In other words, how do you know if you aren't reading too much into something or jumping to conclusions too quickly?

Two questions:

1. What if you want to pray for something but aren't sure it is an appropriate request?

2. How do you know for sure that you aren't interpreting something incorrectly....reading into it what you want to see or hear?

I'd love to hear your thoughts....

I pretty much figure I can pray for anything as long as I don't EXPECT the answer I want.....I mean reading the Psalms there's not too much that is inappropriate is there?? David's praying for punishment for his enemies.....I don't know I'm relatively speaking new to the whole thing and when I read pray about everything worry about nothing...I take everything literally....
#2 is well....I liked to think I intuited alot, that I was discerning but I think I am finding out maybe....not so much....so that's when I really count on Romans 8:26....

Thanks....

I find myself wanting to pray that God would work in a way that would redefine my thoughts about VBS. Brian died the afternoon of VBS family night. VBS is one of the most important things I do in my job....and I have this life-changing event that has made it difficult to focus on what I should focus on. I want God to do something big spiritually to redefine how I look at VBS....I want to pray that God would work in my heart or in my kid's heart so that that event can be redefined...in a positive, life-giving way....I want to pray that one of my kids would someday come to know Christ at VBS....so that I could look at it as a spiritual marker in my kids lives and not as the week my life changed forever....does that seem inappropriate?

1. So pray anyway. We can't decide whether something is appropriate or not, so tell God and then leave it with Him.

2. I don't know for sure, at least not most of the time. Don't we all read into something what we want to see or hear? That seems normal to me. Sometimes it takes someone who is not so subjective to help me see where I'm headed.
